NIRMALA PALLIATIVE CARE CENTRE ALL SET FOR ITS TAKE OFF
Nirmala Palliative Care Centre – a Division of Health Care Charitable Society – is all set for its take off at the 24 cents of land at Vadavucode, near Kolenchery in Ernakulam District, Kerala, for its outpatient, inpatient and home care units. The 15000 sq ft ground floor with 6 cubicles is ready to receive the inpatients. The other two storeys are in their advanced stages of construction.

We have immense pleasure to announce that the Consortium of Pain and Palliative Care Units in Ernakulam District has been privileged to host the Annual Volunteers’ State Meet of Indian Association of Palliative Care Kerala on 8th and 9th April 2017 at Viswadeepthi Public School, Chirayam, Aluva.

A very elaborate Organising Committee has been constituted for the successful conduct of the Meet. More than 1500 delegates from the State are expected to participate in the Annual Meet. The Two Day Meet will focus attention on presenting various areas of patient care by experts in the profession with creative interaction and deliberations for the future. Detailed programme is posted separately.

Delegate fee is Rs. 200/-. Please register your name latest by 30th March 2017.

World Palliative Care Day this year falls on October 8. This year’s theme is "Living and dying in pain: It doesn't have to happen", focusing mainly on the facilities to be provided to patients with life limiting illnesses.

In line with the above, Consortium of Pain and Palliative Care Units in Ernakulam District proposes to organize a Meet of Palliative Care Providers on 9th October 2016 at the premises of the proposed Nurse Assisted Palliative Care Day Care Centre for the Elderly at West Kadungalloor, Aluva. Experts in the profession present papers on various aspects of patient care. Nearly 500 delegates from the pain and palliative care centres are expected to participate in the Meet.

The Meet would be followed by the Annual Day Celebrations of the Anwar Memorial Pain and Palliative Care Society.

IAPCON COIMBATORE 2017
24TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 10-12 FEB, CODISSIA

24th International Conference of the Indian Association of Palliative Care to be held at the CODISSIA in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The conference is being jointly organised by the G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial Hospital and Coimbatore Cancer Care Foundation Trust.

The aim of this conference is to “ADD VALUE” to

AWARENESS: Increasing awareness amongst the public and health care providers is the key to deliver Palliative Care to all who need it.

LEARNING: It is essential that health care providers, community and family engage and learn to Care.

DECIDING RIGHT: Right decisions made at the right time ensures patient centred care. “It’s your life, it’s your choice”

CARE UNTIL THE END: Palliative Care is a human right and it has to be made available to all until the very end.

A large number of national and international doctors, nurses and volunteers with great expertise in palliative care will be attending the conference. This will be an ideal oppurtunity to gain knowledge, share expertise, meet old friends, make new ones and help in the delivery of palliative care to the community.

K Radhakrishna Menon elected unanimously as one of the two members from south zone to the central council of Indian Association of Palliative Care at its annual general meeting held at Pune. South zone consists of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telengana, Pudussery, Andaman and Nicobar islands and Lakshadweep. The term of office is two years.

In line with the theme "Hidden Lives, Hidden Patients", Consortium of Pain and Palliative Care Units in Ernakulam District organized a One Day Meet of Palliative Care Providers at Mahatma Gandhi Municipal Town Hall, Aluva, Kerala, India, on 18th October 2015.

The following sessions were held.

"Care of the Aged" by Dr. N Madhu, Chaitanya Pain and Palliative Care Society, North Parur

"Rehabilitation of the family of the patients with end stage diseases" and "LGBT  and Access to Health Care" by Dr. U Nandakumar Nair, Professor, Sree Chithira

Thirunal Institute of Medical Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram and “Palliative Care for Cancer Patients in rural settings” by Dr. Ansar, Oncologist, Medical College Hospital, Trissur.

The Meet was formally inaugurated by Shri Anwar Sadath, MLA.  Shri Sibi Malayil, noted film director was the chief guest.  He also released the souvenir

SMRITHI on the occasion.  Dr. C M Hyderali, President of the Consortium presided.  Shri K K Basheer welcomed the gathering and Shri K Radhakrishna Menon,

Secretary, proposed vote of thanks to the chair and all those who participated in the meet.  More than 400 delegates from within the Ernakulam District and nearby districts participated in the meet.  The participants performed cultural programmes and also shared their experiences while handling palliative care patients and their family members.  The meet came to a close by 4 P M.


Chinchu Sings Well

Chinchu, the younger one of the two daughters of Mrs. Kumari Jayan and Mr. Jayan, sang a melodious Malayalam cinema song at the inaugural function of the One Day Meet of Palliative Care Providers at the Mahatma Gandhi Municipal Town Hall, Aluva, on 18th October 2015 in connection with the World Palliative Care Day.  She is a Plus Two student of St. Antony’s National Institute Open School, Aluva.

Mrs. Kumari was afflicted with cancer of the intestine and she was admitted as an inpatient at the Palliative Care Clinic of Anwar Memorial Pain and Palliative Care Society.  She expired two years ago.

Sibi Malayil, eminent film director, who was the chief guest of the inaugural function, presented her with a memento as a token of appreciation of her innate musical talents.

Chalakkal Life Care Charitable Society marches forward

Third anniversary of Chalakkal Life Care Charitable Society was inaugurated by Anwar Sadath, M.L.A. At Darussalam L P School audititorium.  Thampi Kurian, General Manager, Federal Bank, was the chief guest.  Fisat former chairman P V Mathew delivered key note address.  Dr. C M Hyderali felicitated the medical students from the locality.  Adv. Abdul Muthaleeb, Ernakulam District Panchayat Member, Lisa Sebastian, President,  Keezhmadu Grama Panchayat, K A Basheer, Ex. President, P A Mehaboob, T B Hasheem, P V Ajaya Kumar, K M Marikkar, K V Shanmughan, M Meethianpillai, V V Manmadhan, Raghunathan Nair felicitated. 

Dr. P V Gangadharan and Dr. Tom Babu rendered sessions on cancer and diabetics respectively. 

The meeting was chaired by T M Alikunju.  Mujeeb Kuttamasseri proposed vote of thanks.

15th January is being observed as the launching of the home care based palliative care in Kerala.

In line with the above, Consortium of Pain and Palliative Care Units in Ernakulam District proposes to hold a half day awareness programme on the following topics:

1.  General awareness on cancer and its impact
2. General awareness on palliative care

Dr. Shaji of Kochi Medical College and Dr. Ram Kumar of Aster Medcity are rendering sessions.

The time is 2 P M to 5 P M on 18th January 2015 at the premises of the proposed site of Anwar Memorial Day Care Centre for the Aged at West Kadungallur.

This will be followed by the formal foundation stone laying ceremony of the Anwar Memorial Day Care Centre for the Aged.  Shri Ibrahim Kunju, Honble Minister for Public Works has kindly consented to formally lay the foundation stone of the new building.  Shri Jinnas, President, Kadungalloor Grama Panchayat, has kindly consented to formally inaugurate the public function.
